What is silicone compression molding production?

Silicone compression molding production is a widely used manufacturing process for shaping solid silicone rubber into customized parts or products. In this method, pre-measured silicone material is placed directly into a heated mold cavity. Once the mold is closed, heat and pressure are applied, causing the material to flow and fill the mold shape. After a set curing time, the mold is opened and the formed part is removed.
This process is ideal for producing high-quality silicone components with precise dimensions, excellent durability, and a smooth finish. It is especially suitable for medium to large batch runs, and is commonly used in consumer goods, automotive, medical, and industrial applications.
At HaoTian, our experienced team and in-house tooling capabilities ensure each silicone compression molded product meets your exact requirements with consistency and efficiency.
What is silicone over-molding?
Silicone over-molding is a process where liquid or solid silicone is molded over another substrate or component—such as plastic, metal, or another silicone part—to form a strong, integrated two-layer product. This technique allows the combination of materials with different properties, enhancing functionality, comfort, and appearance.
It’s widely used in products that require soft-touch grips, waterproof seals, or ergonomic designs—such as toothbrush handles, medical devices, electronic buttons, and wearables.
At HaoTian, we specialize in precision silicone over-molding, ensuring perfect adhesion, seamless finishes, and reliable performance—even for complex geometries or delicate components.

SILICONE MOLDING PRODUCTION PROCESS
HaoTian’s silicone molding process ensures precision and quality at every step—from raw materials to final curing. We offer customized solutions including compression molding, LSR injection, and multi-color molding to meet your unique product needs efficiently and reliably.
1. Choose the Right Silicone Material and Durometer
The silicone molding production process starts with selecting the perfect raw silicone material. Since silicone rubbers come in various formulations tailored for different applications, choosing the right one is crucial to ensure your product’s success.By thoroughly understanding your specific needs, we recommend the optimal silicone material—considering product design, functionality, operating environment, performance requirements, safety standards, and budget—so you get the most effective and practical solution for your project.

2. Silicone Material Compounding and Blending
Raw silicone material is naturally a milky-white or transparent gum-like substance without elasticity or strength. To enhance its properties and achieve the desired color, it must be expertly compounded with additives like vulcanizing agents, reinforcing fillers, accelerators, and colorants.Silicone compounding is a sophisticated process of carefully selecting and blending these ingredients. Achieving the perfect mixture is essential to ensure the quality and success of the silicone molding production.

3. Cutting / Blanking
After blending, the silicone material is rolled into large film-covered sheets to protect against dust and contaminants. These rolls are then precisely sliced by automated cutting machines. The dimensions of each slice are carefully controlled based on the weight requirements of the silicone part to be molded. This blanking process streamlines material handling for our molding operators, ensuring accurate weighing and efficient production during the silicone molding process.

4. Weight and Place Silicone Material onto Preheated Mold
Our skilled molding operators precisely cut and weigh the silicone material before placing it swiftly and accurately onto the preheated mold. Correct material weight is critical—excess causes oversized parts, while insufficient material leads to undersized or incomplete pieces. At HB Silicone, we provide standardized training for every operator. With a minimum of 3 years’ experience in silicone molding production, our team’s expertise ensures smooth problem-solving and consistently delivers reliable, high-quality results.

5. Silicone part vulcanization molding
Silicone material will be fully cured under high temperature and pressure from vulcanizing molding machine, then the silicone parts are formed. Our molding department is equiped with 8 high precision automatic vacuum vulcanizing machines which can be used to craft more high performance silicone parts. Our sophisticated molding machines, coupled with our skilled operators, provide the capacity and flexibility to mould high-quality, high-volume silicone parts in short peroid.

6. Demolding
Once the silicone is fully cured, the vulcanizing molding machine automatically releases pressure. The mold then opens, allowing skilled operators to carefully remove the perfectly formed silicone parts. After demolding, fresh raw material is placed to start the next vulcanization cycle, ensuring a smooth and efficient production flow.

7. Deflash
Silicone flash is the thin excess material that forms along the parting line where the mold splits. Due to silicone’s low viscosity and the high pressure during heating and curing, the material naturally flows into every crevice of the mold. While flash can be minimized through optimized design, precise tooling, and accurate material weighing, it is usually removed manually. For certain cases, cryogenic deflashing may be applied to achieve a cleaner finish. Please note that all silicone parts will retain a minimal flash line (less than 0.3mm), known as the parting line. For products where appearance is critical, please inform us in advance so our engineers can optimize the mold layout for a smoother finish.
